Express Scanning Overview
If your project began before June 2025, your smart packages do not support Express Scanning.
If your project has been using the CertiScan Mobile App for remote patient monitoring, please continue to do so.
What is Express Scanning?
Express Scanning allows anyone to upload data from their smart medication packaging using a mobile phone, with no app or login required. The scan is performed using NFC (Near Field Communication), the same wireless technology used for tap payments.
During an Express Scan:
- The phone wirelessly reads data from the smart package.
- A secure website opens in the browser.
- The data is uploaded and processed automatically.
- A confirmation message is shown.
Expres Scans are private and secure. The package only stores dose timestamps and no personal information. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
Who Can Use It?
- Patients or their trusted friends and family can use Express Scanning to upload adherence data while at home or on the go.
- Providers can scan during return visits to upload any doses that haven't yet synced to CertiScan Cloud.
Phone Requirements
- iPhone Xs or newer (iOS 12+)
- Android phones with NFC (Android 10+)
Smart Package Requirements
- Med-ic smart blister package that was shipped June 2025 or later
- eCAP smart bottle cap that was shipped June 2025 or later
What Providers Need to Do
- Ensure patients receive compatible smart packages.
- Brief patients on how to locate the scan spot on their packages and how to perform an Express Scan.
- Direct patients to Express Scan Instructions if they need help.
- Use the CertiScan portal to review scan data.
- If performing Express Scans yourself, review the instructions as they are applicable for both patient and provider use.
