Introduction

important

This user guide is for providers (i.e. trial site staff).

CertiScan is a medication adherence management platform, consisting of smart packages and software.

  • Smart Packages: Med-ic® and eCAP™ automatically record the date and time of each opening (i.e. each dose removal).
  • Software for patients: The CertiScan Mobile App allows patients to scan their smart packages (with a contactless "tap") to upload dose data to CertiScan Cloud.
  • Software for providers: Data is analyzed and stored in CertiScan Cloud, and accessed through the CertiScan Web Portal.

CertiScan Terminology

  • Project: Clinical activity with defined start and end times. Synonymous with "study" or "trial".
  • Site: Projects must have one or more sites where clinical activities are conducted.
  • Providers: The staff members who oversee a project. Providers can have two roles:
    • Project admins: Can view and manage patients across all sites, and access project-level permissions: add/remove sites, add other providers, and more.
    • Site investigators (i.e. coordinators): Can only view and manage patients at their site.
  • Patients: The participants in the project, whose adherence will be monitored.
  • Regimens: Describe what must be taken (i.e. the medication) and how it should be taken (i.e. the schedule).
  • Reader: A USB device that enables data transfer between smart packages and CertiScan.

Working with Smart Packages

note

This is a general overview. Refer to the Common Use Cases for detailed instructions.

  1. Set up patients with regimen, smart packages, and remote access code (if applicable).
  2. Smart packages store the adherence data, which is scanned/uploaded (either remotely by patients using the mobile app, or by you during patient return visits).
  3. Scan a returned smart package.
  4. Work with patient data: review individual patient details or patient summaries and provide coaching according to your protocol.
  5. Export data - Project Admin access may be required.
